Up to this point in history, there have only been two traditional ways of learning westernized music.
The first way has been through the study of counterpoint where two or
more melodic lines of sound interact in one musical composition. This
is an intense study of sound resolution teaching how to avoid dissonant sounds while performing music.
This music approach is considered; horizontal music learning.
A student
learns to read the Grand Staff of music from left to right with various
note duration and timing. The second way to learn music is vertical,
here music is fundamentally read up and down for harmony.
Harmony is how sound builds up creating interval distance and chords.
Functional harmony is commonly used by composers as a less detailed way to write out a song.
Roman numerals are used to represent the chords of a key. These chords,
including advanced substitution chords, are used to compose chord
progressions that work as a chorus,
verse, or bridge section of a song.
These two general music approaches are
commonly interrelated and sometimes hard to distinguish
one from another. Both approaches are taught in schools and universities.
What is ... INTEGRATED FUNCTIONAL HARMONY?
Integrated Functional Harmony is the optimum displacement of musical sounds into one complete order.
Simply said … It places all the musical sounds into working order.
This new theory looks at harmony and the combination of sounds as one overall working structure.
It is "not" merely chromatic harmony with the study of the twelve tone
scales and related chords. Integrated Harmony is the study of all
tones, chords and keys with their "working connections" or
links from one
sound to another. This advanced sound integration presents all harmony
potentials over the entire united chromatic key system. Integrated
Functional Harmony is useful and practical music theory because most
modern day songs are composed using multiple keys with chromatic chord
substitution and contrasting song sections. Integrated Functional
Harmony shows all the sound connections over all the keys.
NEW MUSIC THEORY TERMS:
SOLID HARMONY™
INTEGRATED FUNCTIONAL HARMONY
Over the past one hundred years, the modern music system has remained hidden to most musicians.
There are literally thousands of possible scale and chord applications within the thirty music keys that have made the connected harmony system very hard to understand and observe. Most musicians are overwhelmed by the amount of music information that is needed to be organized. Many music students only learn to play in a few keys and never feel that they have truly mastered the music system.
Our music system has remained far too
complex to ever think of obtaining an Applied Harmony
Overview.
This is why the discovery of the
Harmony Matrix® is so important to music education.
Harmony: To come together in perfect agreement.
Matrix: Core alignment - source of development.
The new HARMONY MATRIX® approach
incorporates standard functional harmony theory into
a new form of modern ... INTEGRATED FUNCTIONAL HARMONY.
The
Harmony Matrix® core music formula replicates its order
throughout the entire music system.
It is the Universal Music Code that
aligns and connects all musical components together as one.
The Harmony Matrix® lists all tones, scales and chords in both diatonic and chromatic keys.
All keys are listed in "connected" working order.
See
HOW THE KEYS CONNECT on the
SUPERSONIC KEYS web page near the bottom of the page.
This illustration shows the parallel key order that relates to the Harmony Matrix®.
Working order … in this sense, is related to three principles of functional harmony:
1. Sound locations within the complete applied music system,
2. Sound construction for intervals, scales, chords and keys and…
3. Sound potentials for sound interval movement and modulation.
The
complete working order of music is presented in the Harmony Matrix® unique and simplistic design.
Simple Harmony Matrix® color box patterns act as a new form of visual music formulas.
Shape and color recognition is faster than the written word and can
convey more music information
in a shorter period of time. These new
harmony shapes condense the music information down 15 to 1 making
learning all the standard music formulas much easier.
( The 15 to 1 ratio includes the enharmonic notation of tones, chords and keys. )
This New visual music language creates a Speed Harmony™ music reference for every musician.
The Harmony Matrix® is a very useful tool to use when composing or transposing music.
Many languages in the past contained multiple meanings in their letters.
Example - 1: Hebrew - The Hebrew language contains not only letter
information but, number and symbolic picture association in each letter. The
English language only contains letter information.
This new
Harmony Matrix® Symbol Language conveys three forms of music information -
1. Pitch Color - ( A Universal Sound Color Code ) which is applied to all theory applications
1. Pitch Location - ( A Universal Sound Location ) relative to all connected chromatic music keys.
2. Pitch Direction - ( Universal Sound Mapping ) with a Movable Sound Interval Displacement Field.

THESE ESSENTIAL INTERVAL NAMES
CAN BE RELATED TO LARGER INTERVALS AND NEW NAMES.
Any musical scale or chord can be associated to the Harmony Matrix® as
a Harmony Matrix® pattern. The pattern can be viewed over any tonic
tone showing all connections of applied harmony.
The Harmony Matrix® presents intervals, chords and keys
in fixed locations. This is useful for knowing complete sound
potentials related by interval movement in or out of chromatic keys when
composing songs. The Harmony Matrix® presents a
SPEED HARMONY™ reference for learning and song analysis.
For beginners, this material
simplifies and accelerates music learning by organizing harmony concepts
into one - super organization of sound which is read by simple box patterns and colors.
Visual Harmony™ and the Harmony Matrix® allows the musician to quickly obtain
a powerful music overview of the applied harmony system. This overview helps them to feel more confident in learning
and playing music.
The Harmony Matrix® does not include all music information and practical applications.
Learning to read music notation for preforming and composing songs is also needed.
Learning different styles of music with various beats and timing along
with advanced scale and chord application is also important.
What understanding the Harmony Matrix® does, it creates a
SOLID HARMONY™ foundation to
organize and build music information on. This knowledge base frees the
music student to be able to discover personal music expression. It helps
them to learn to play with deeper feeling. It allows them to be able
to
concentrate on mastering the mechanics of a musical instrument and
to perform better.
The final benefit of The Harmony Matrix® is;
it acts as a universal sound compass or; sound road map for composing songs.
